Cigna Plans to Lay Off 2,000 Employees Worldwide
Bloomfield-based health insurance and managed care giant The Cigna Group has confirmed plans to reduce its global workforce by approximately 2,000 positions by the end of February 2026, according to reporting from Yahoo Finance and Healthcare Dive.
The planned layoffs represent just under 3% of Cigna’s total workforce of about 73,500 people and are part of an effort to “drive greater efficiency across the business,” company officials said in a statement. Cigna also noted it will offer transition support services to affected employees, though it hasn’t detailed which departments or locations will see cuts.
The insurer did not specify how many jobs in Connecticut—where its headquarters in Bloomfield is located—might be affected, but reports note that more than 3,000 employees are based in the state.
Cigna’s announcement follows similar workforce reductions in the health insurance sector as companies adjust to rising costs and seek cost efficiencies.
